Three years before becoming The Specials’ trombonist in 1979, half-Cuban JA emigré Rico Rodriguez sculpted this masterpiece of exploratory Afro/ jazz/reggae instrumentals between London and Kingston, thus evoking both his rusticRasta background (see title), and a Grace Jones-esque transatlantic sophistication. This bolts on a dub album, plus out-there outtakes – a superb epitaph.
