…re-formed grunge hel­lions L7 have so far re­leased two new tunes and now an­nounce, “We’ve had such a blast record­ing again that we de­cided to keep the ball rolling.” There’ll be a new record this year, their first since Slap-Happy in ’99 … Brad­ford Cox and com­pany are head­ing back into the stu­dio for a new DEER­HUNTER al­bum in Oc­to­ber. It’s pre­ceded by a tour-only cas­sette sold on dates be­gin­ning this month…when Yasiin Bey, alias MOS DEF (left), said in Fe­bru­ary that he and Talib Kweli were mak­ing a new Black Star record with pro­ducer Madlib, 20 years af­ter their much-ad­mired sole LP. Kweli ad­mit­ted they’d long dis­cussed it but he had no warn­ing of the an­nounce­ment. The two will, how­ever, head­line the Brook­lyn Hip Hop Fes­ti­val on July 14, so fin­gers crossed… AL­DOUS HARD­ING has been in the stu­dio with reg­u­lar pro­ducer John Parish. New tour ma­te­rial is ex­pected on the al­bum, which will be out next year… NEW

OR­DER’s Phil Cun­ning­ham and Tom Chap­man have joined with Devo’s Josh Hager for new band Shad­ow­party. Vo­cal­ist Denise John­son, Verve gui­tarist Nick McCabe and ar­ranger Joe Dud­dell, who scored New Or­der’s synth or­ches­tra, guest on their first al­bum, out in July… com­ing in Septem­ber, THE LEMON TWIGS’
