I hit them with my time machine
Great to see my old friend Michaels Simmons’ article on The Band’s Music From Big Pink in MOJO 299. As a weird minor footnote to music history, I was in college in 1968 when Capitol Records launched the record with a contest: “Name the Bob Dylan painting on the cover of Music From Big Pink and win a pink Honda motorcycle.” I won the contest, naming it Crayon Amnesia. I asked if I could have a different colour motorbike than pink, and they sent me a black one. That Dylan painting, I believe, now hangs in Bob’s business office in New York. Never heard whether Bob likes my name for it, but I know he digs my song Gallo Del Cielo, because he said so in Clarence Clemons’ book. Honoured I am.
