…director David Boni has spent six years piecing together an official STRANGLERS (right) documentary, telling the story from their early ’70s beginnings to the present day, via vintage and new film and interviews. It premieres in cinemas in April, though it doesn’t look like Hugh Cornwell will be involved… Steve McQueen is continuing work on an as-yet untitled doc on late rap meteor TUPAC SHAKUR, with the co-operation of his estate. SIEVEY STORY is a portrait of the man better known as papier mâchéheaded comic Frank Sidebottom. As Frank (right) becomes a star, the story runs, “Chris grows to resent his creation and descends into alcoholism and bankruptcy, but his genius cannot survive without ‘Being Frank’. So Chris devises a master plan…” Julia Parnell and Rob Curry’s documentary on New Zealand cults MARTIN PHILLIPPS and THE CHILLS arrives next year. It portrays the singer-songwriter leaving behind the drug and alcohol-induced health problems that nearly killed him, and trying to get his music back on track… on Netflix, THE DIRT adapts Mötley Crüe’s collaborative, 2001 biog of sex, drugs and degeneracy as a drama. It stars Douglas Booth, who’s played Boy George and Percy Bysshe Shelley, as bassist Nikki Sixx; Iwan Rheon as guitarist Mick Mars.
