WHAT WE’VE LEARNT

● When a cop came on-stage in Tampa with a bullhorn to stop her show mid-song, Joplin screamed, “Get off my stage, motherfucker!” She made the FBI list, under suspicion of inciting riots.

● Joplin went to business school, earning high marks in keypunch, marketing and accounting. The accounting part didn’t prevent her band from signing a rip-off deal.

● That night with Leonard Cohen in the Chelsea Hotel? Apparently it was pretty meh. Janis, usually generous about her lovers, mentioned Cohen, along with Jim Morrison, as being way down the list.
