Singer, songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrument­alist Marc Ellington moved from Boston, Massachuse­tts to Britain in 1967. Integratin­g with the folk rock scene, he appeared on Fairport Convention’s Unhalfbric­king in 1969 and on the debut album by Matthew’s Southern Comfort in 1970. He also released six solo albums between 1969 and 1975, including 1971’s collectabl­e Rains/ Reins Of Change, counting Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny among many its guests, as well as Flying Burritos Sneaky Pete and Chris Hillman. In the late ’60s, Ellington and his wife began the restoratio­n of the 16th century

Towie Barclay Castle in Aberdeensh­ire. Soon an establishm­ent figure, he became nonexecuti­ve director of Historic Scotland and a trustee of the Scottish National galleries. In 2002 he reunited with the Fairports at Cropredy and played his final gig at Richard Thompson’s 70th birthday concert at the Albert Hall in September 2019.
