Deluxe 2021 reissues of the first two Pretenders albums caught the eye, but Chrissie Hynde’s latter-day creative streak was not much less impressive: a strong 2020 Pretenders set followed by this connoisseur’s selection of Dylan covers, inspired by the profundities of Murder Most Foul. Recorded at Hynde’s home for maximum intimacy, expertly mixed for optimum scale, the album found one of the great singers of the post-punk era still at the peak of her powers.
