Yet surprisingly, it was his work with Arizona’s Americana heroes Giant Sand that was key in drawing Yard Act to him. “The stuff that Yard Act get pegged with the most is probably the stuff I listen to the least,” explains James Smith. “I mainly listen to Americana and alt-country and rap music. Giant Sand – especially the stuff with the Calexico rhythm section… I’ve just liked the songs for a long time.”
