Zoë Power on the sea’s creative allure

Photographer Zoë Power on why the seaside is her favourite creative space

I adore the seaside. There’s nothing quite like meandering along the beach barefoot with the sun on your face, breathing in lungfuls of fresh sea air, to restore the spirits. It’s the perfect place to unplug from our 24/ 7 digital world and just be. I love all the soft colours and textures you find there – from pastel beach huts, gentle sunrises and epic sunsets, to smooth round pebbles, ripples and patterns as the waves crash in. The beach really is one giant canvas that can change in an instant. I love how it

can look entirely different, from bright sunny technicolour to wild monotone. It’s a great place to learn how to work with light. Calm seaside settings are a perfect backdrop for Blythe photography, too. Photoshoots are always entertaining and often messy affairs – they have a tendency to take a nose dive where they shouldn’t and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder for curious dogs who take a shine to my dolls. I haven’t lost one – yet!

Blythe loves the seaside – when she’s not being chased by a dog!

Colour, texture and shape abound down on the beach.
