Festive traditions and treasured decorations

“Christmas is one of my favourite times of year. I love all the rituals from childhood, and the new ones I’ve added along the way – starting a ‘ present box’, making the cake, Christmas carols and card writing.

I particularly enjoy the scramble in the loft for decorations, such as a snow- covered tree, wreaths and slightly wonky children’s efforts. Opening the fusty- smelling box ( I still have the same one my mother used in the 1950s) fills me with such excitement.

This is why I was delighted to work on this month’s gift, creating a retro- inspired bauble. I chose a 50s- style reindeer, but there’s lots of things you could make instead. How about coasters for your home? Or a bookmark for a friend? With very little effort you can easily whip up festive gifts and decorations. This deer bauble will be another one to add to my collection – and hopefully yours, too.”
