Mix together the translucent clay with your chosen colour. Make five small balls of clay – one of pure translucent, one pure colour, and then three variations of both types of clay mixed together.

Begin by placing the pure translucent ball in the middle, and wrap the pieces of mixed clay around it.

Finish by wrapping the whole piece with the layer of pure colour to create a solid ring.

Roll out flat in between sheets of greaseproof baking paper until all of the layers have blended together.

Cut the sides to create a flat edge, then bake according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Once the clay is cool, coat with several layers of varnish. Use the sponge brush to reduce brush strokes and rub down with craft paper in between layers.

Using the gloss, adhere the gold leaf to the edges. Leave to dry and brush away the excess.
