Crochet a statement place for your pressies, then hang by the fireside

Christmas isn’t complete without turning your entire house into Santa’s grotto, and that includes Christmas stockings, hung by the chimney with care.

Crafting your own handmade stocking – or a stocking for littlies – is a great way to put a personal spin on tradition, and this oneof-a-kind example can be used again and again for years to come. Using bright colours, granny stripes in clashing hues, and plenty of texture, it’s the Yuletide project we’ve been patiently waiting for.

Never tried crochet but fancy giving it a go? This make is definitely for you. Practise your stitches before you get started following the video tutorials at

www.molliemakes.com, and just take it section by section.

Instructions

The stocking is made by joining eight floral motifs to make a cuff, then crocheting the leg and foot of the stocking to the cuff. Finally the toe and heel are made, and a top border and hanging loop added to finish the piece.

To make the flower motifs, follow the pattern below, but refer to the table on the left for yarn colours. When making the motifs, weave in the ends as you go. This makes it

easier to see where the stitches go behind each set of petals.
