Money Week

How my tips have fared

-

It has been a good fortnight for my four active long tips, three of which have risen by small amounts. Media group ITV climbed from 115p to 116p, homebuilder DR Horton increased from $94.63 to $94.96 and construction firm Morgan Sindall rose from 2,510p to 2,615p. Only spread betting firm Plus500 fell: from 1,498p to 1,400p.

However, both broker TP ICAP and US homebuilder PulteGroup remain below the level at which I recommended that you should go long. Overall, my long tips are making a total profit of £4,146, up from £3,884 two weeks ago.

Sadly, all my six short tips have also appreciated in the past fortnight. Cloudcomputing firm Snowflake rose from $276 to $310, electric-car company Plug Power climbed from $25.32 to $26.40 and electric carmaker Tesla also increased – from $706 to $733.

Digital currency bitcoin went up from $49,615 to $51,253, cinema chain AMC rose from $36.78 to $44.02 and remote-medicine firm Teladoc advanced from $140 to $144.56. Overall, four of my tips (Snowflake, bitcoin, Teladoc and Tesla) are losing money, with my short tips as a whole £360 in the red, compared with profits of £112 a fortnight ago.

I now have ten active tips: four longs (ITV, DR Horton, Morgan Sindall, Plus 500) and six shorts (Snowflake, Plug Power, Tesla, AMC, bitcoin and Teladoc).

My long tips in TP ICAP and PulteGroup, in addition to the long position in Royal Mail, haven’t reached the level at which they should activate. I suggest you raise the stop-loss on Morgan Sindall to 2,000p (from 1,750p). I also recommend that you cut the price at which you cover your Snowflake short to $325, and will suggest closing the position if the stock does start falling.
