How my tips have fared

-

It has been a mixed fortnight for my long tips, with three rising and six going down. Furniture retailer Dunelm increased from 1,193p to 1,194p, luxury clothing brand Burberry advanced from 2,447p to 2,563p and discount-store chain B&M European Value Retail rose from 483p to 486p. Construction firm Ashtead fell from 5,654p to 5,586p, US housebuilder DR Horton decreased from $98.30 to $94.08, estate agent Savills dropped from 1,102p to 991p, and streaming service Netflix declined from $361 to $347. At the same time, online clothing retailer ASOS fell from 922p to 818p and telecoms firm Gamma Communications went down from 1,178p to 1,174p. Overall, my long tips are making collective net profits of £5,094, well down from £5,729.

My short tips also had a mixed performance, with two rising and two falling. Data-centre real estate investment trust Digital Realty fell from $113.64 to $109.22, and ticketing firm Live Nation also fell from $79.60 to $77.59. However, aspiring satellite operator AST SpaceMobile went up from $6.04 to $6.47, while electric-charging firm EVgo rose from $6.24 to $6.52 Overall, the gains from the falls slightly outweighed the losses from the rises in price, so my five short tips are making a combined profit of £607, up from £589.

Overall, my short and long tips are making combined profits of £5,702, down from £6,317. Given the imbalance between short and long tips in the portfolio, I’m going to suggest that you take profits of £901 on Ashtead at this point.

This means that going forward there are eight long tips (Dunelm, Netflix, Burberry, DR Horton, Gamma Communications, Savills, ASOS and B&M European Value Retail) and five short tips (EVgo, AST SpaceMobile, Digital Realty, Live Nation and Paycom). I would suggest that you increase the stop losses on Dunelm to 900p (from 890p), Netflix to $290 (from $280) and Burberry to 1,775p (from 1,750p).
