Enjoy sea, sand and stress-free fun

Love the idea of making memories at the beach with your youngster? M&B’s Ultimate beach guide will equip you with all the essential know-how you need, along with oodles of fun activities to ensure your day is packed with plenty of sandy smiles, whether you’re heading to the Maldives, Majorca or Margate. ‘There’s something about the meeting of land and water that creates awe and wonder in children,’ says Cassie Holland, beach school co-ordinator and early years practitioner. ‘It engages all the senses: the toe-scrunching feel of the sand, the sight of the seagulls, the smell of brine, the sound of the ocean, and the taste of the salt in the air – it’s such a stimulating place to explore.’

Research carried out at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health also suggests that being in nature helps to protect children from stress and improves their ability to problem solve. And of all our natural environments in the world, it’s the coast that creates the greatest sense of wellbeing. ‘And that’s something you’ll see in your youngster,’ says Cassie. ‘Children react to being on the beach in different ways. Some just want to sit down, feeling the texture of the sand under their toes and listening to the waves. Others want to run around in that huge space, belly-laughing. But, whichever, you’ll see and feel just how happy yours is to be there.’ So, grab your bucket and spade, and let’s go…!
