Three things I’d tell my friends
Stay active if you feel well enough during late pregnancy. The day before I went into labour I was going down slides with the boys at soft play! I also went for walks every day. Any kind of movement is beneficial, and helps set you up for a more efficient labour.
Trust your instincts. Listen to the midwives – they have years of experience – but listen to yourself, too, because no one knows you like you do. If you intuitively feel something, speak up.
If you’re planning a home birth, you’ll still need to pack a hospital bag just in case – but hide it somewhere you can’t see it! You need to believe that you’re capable of birthing your baby at home.
