Breath­ing in labour has become a bit of a cliché since the 1970s, when women leant on their beardy hus­bands in an­te­na­tal classes and puffed their way through imag­i­nary con­trac­tions. But breath­ing calmly and deeply is a great way of cen­tre­ing your­self and gain­ing a sense of con­fi­dence and con­trol. A yoga or med­i­ta­tion class is a good place to learn how.
