Knockhill joins MN Circuit Rally Championship calendar for ’17/18
Knockhill will join the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship for the 2017/18 season, with a round in December as the series revealed a provisional third year schedule.
The Fife venue replaces Rockingham on the calendar, while the rest of the eight championship rounds remain the same.
Treble British Touring Car champion Gordon Shedden – who is also commercial director at Knockhill – revealed the news at the Autosport International Show on Thursday last week.
“Scotland has a real affinity with rallying and a real presence,” said Shedden.
“You get some fantastic cars, great drivers; who knows, these guys coming to compete at Knockhill could be the WRC stars of the future.
“It’s [competing in the winter] a chance to stay sharp in different conditions. It’s almost going back to pure driving. It’s all about car control, and what better way to hone that than to be sliding around Knockhill in December?”
Championship coordinator Darren Spann added: “This addition gives our championship at least one round in Scotland, Wales and England and makes it truly a national championship.”
