BRX champion Rooke backs Pembrey

-

Reigning British Rallycross champion Dan Rooke has backed the layout changes to the Pembrey Circuit in South Wales that were announced last week.

The rallycross element of the Welsh venue will involve a number of changes. Where cars previously joined the first loose section at the end of the circuit’s second corner (after the paddock crossing) the rallycross track will now continue on the main circuit to the left, in front of the spectator banking, before a sharp right-hand corner onto the loose section, rejoining the original circuit.

The track is also changed further around the infield loose surface after crossing a new section of the Tarmac circuit. The joker lap has moved from the outside of the first corner to the infield.

“The changes should be really good,” said Rooke, who claimed the 2016 title at Pembrey. “It looks like it flows nicely, obviously nobody has driven on it yet as they are still finishing it, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.

“I think the joker lap change will mix things up. It will make it harder strategically and with the joker on the loose instead of the Tarmac it will be easier to make a mistake too. It’s another positive change for Pembrey and I’m looking forward to racing there this year.”
