ORECA lowers the price of R4 kit

-

French preparation firm ORECA has cut the price of its Fia-sanctioned R4 kit in an effort to build demand for the product.

Originally expected to be priced at €108,000 (£95,500), the kit is now for sale at €85,000 (£75,000) with ORECA aiming to sell 15 worldwide. The 800-piece kit comprises a Peugeot-based 1600cc turbocharged engine; transmission; suspension cradles, triangles, and mountings; hub carriers, steering rack, and fuel tank.

Each customer will still have to provide their own donor car, fit the kit and then get it passed for competition by scrutineers from their local governing body. ORECA engineer Matthieu Bassou told MN he expected a complete car to cost in the region of £140,000 – which brings the R4 into the price bracket for a second-hand R5 car.

A team spokesperson said: “With homologation marking the end of an important development phase, ORECA Group has now started working on producing the kits.

“This price change allows us to manufacture highly competitive race cars, not only on track but also commercially when looking at each car’s overall budget.

“One of the main criteria was also to look at running costs per kilometre. An R4 class car is half as expensive to run as an R5 car. The FIA R4 kit thus stands as one of the most competitive packages in terms of performance-cost ratio.”
