Foust wins but he can’ t stop speed king

-

The final for the last round of the Americas Rallycross Championship looked more like an entry list, with Volkswagen duo Tanner Foust and Scott Speed on row one, Ford Focus RS RX drivers Ken Block and Steve Arpin on row two and Subaru pair Toomas Heikkinen and Patrik Sandell on row three.

Speed had already wrapped up the first ARX title by winning his semi-final, battling back from a spin in Q2 after contact with Block.

Foust took the lead of the final from the start and maintained the advantage after his joker lap in front of Speed, who had taken a lap one joker in the Andretti Autosport-run Volkswagen Beetle.

Entering the event nine points off the lead, Foust had done all he could by taking the win and maximum points and, while he claimed his second win of the year, following victory at Silverstone in May, he couldn’t prevent Speed taking the title.

Arpin scored his first podium in the series and Heikkinen was best of the Subaru drivers on his debut for the Vermont Sports Car squad in fourth. Block had been fastest in Q3 as rain slowed the second race in the session but didn’t make it away from the start line in the final.

Alex Keyes netted a pair of ARX2 wins in a double-header season finale for the Supercar Lites support class and RX2 driver Conner Martell took the single-make title.
