CMMC puts plans in place to avoid low grids

-

The new Classic and Modern Motorsport Club intends to double the number of official meetings in 2019 and learn the lessons from poor grid numbers at Snetterton last month.

Snetterton was the second meeting the club has held in its inaugural season, having earlier hosted one at Mallory Park in June. Next year plans are to hold at least four official CMMC race meetings, with Cadwell Park and Lydden Hill events joining Snetterton and Mallory.

Grid sizes were disappointing for the CMMC races at Snetterton, with four cars taking part in the Jaguar Challenge race, seven in the Motorsport School Modern Challenge and nine in the British Thoroughbreds race. The annual Archie Scott Brown Trophy, marking the 60th anniversary of the sportscar great’s death, also had seven entries.

The Motorsport School Sports vs Saloons race was best attended with 14 starters.

Club founder Richard Culverhouse nevertheless intends to build on the club’s freshman year by continuing in a similar vein with the larger number of race meetings. He attributes the low Snetterton turn out to other events held at the same time of the year, such as the Goodwood Revival and Spa 6 Hours.
