Chris Ingram is hoping to be top WRC2 Brit on this weekend’s Wales Rally GB, following his strong podium finish on his class debut at Rally Turkey.

The Manchester driver has endured a disjointed season, with illness truncating his European Championship bid. He remains in the thick of the fight for this year’s Under28 ERC title with one round left.

Ingram is looking to build on the class-leading pace shown in Turkey last month before a puncture dropped him to third.

“We’ll do our best: first Brit in R5 would be nice,” said Ingram, who has last year’s podium finisher Tom Cave and M-sport WRC2 regular Gus Greensmith for company.

“The route for Rally GB is different and will be interesting from what I’ve heard. I think it will just be amazing to do it in a four-wheel-drive car.”

Ingram starts in Wales having finished third on the ERC qualifying Rally Poland a fortnight ago.

“We need to work as hard as possible and then when we get to Rally GB just enjoy it and we’ll do well,” he added.
