Bob Vardy and Keaton Williams have had their exclusion from the Plains Rally overturned, and their BTRDA points added back on after a successful appeal.

Vardy and Williams didn’t stop at the scene of Jack Leese’s crash on the May event after not seeing the stricken Peugeot 208 which was off the road. Competitors had been warned another car was off in the area – Ian Joel’s Ford Escort Cosworth – and Vardy/williams were looking out for that.

After winning the R2 Rallye Cup on the Trackrod they finish second to George Lepley in the class with points reinstated. They also take fourth in the BTRDA Silver Star.

In a statement issued by Williams, he said: “Back in May, Bob Vardy and I were excluded from the event under ruling R32.2(r). This decision was made after we did not stop for car 48 who unfortunately had a serious accident.

“The matter was forwarded to the MSA National Court which both Bob and I attended on the August 28.

“We appealed the decision and on the September 20, we attended an MSA Stewards meeting in Knutsford. After reviewing all of the evidence and viewing statements from witnesses of the incident, the decision was undoubtedly in our favour resulting in our points reinstated and appeal fee refunded.

“A big thank you for everyone’s support. It’s an experience we don’t want to encounter again.”
