Saunders excels in 6R4
During the 1986 RAC Rally, Harri Toivonen retired on SS38 out of 45 when the engine blew in his MG Metro 6R4 during a run on the Penmachno stage. Tarmac regular John Saunders, having owned that same car for three years, was delighted to succeed where Toivonen did not by finishing without incident in 17th alongside co-driver Tony Hart. As the original car is ineligible to compete, they entered a modified 2.5-litre 6R4 wearing the same livery.
