There was heartbreak for Toyota’s Ott Tanak, but that set up an epic battle

Motor Sport News - - Have your say -

Sebastien Ogier was thrilled to land his fourth victory of the 2018 World Rally Championship. As he lifted the silverware atop his M-sport Ford Fiesta, he knew he had earned it.

While Ott Tanak was unlucky to lose out with mechanical trouble on his works Toyota Yaris, what was left was a huge battle between the rest of the category’s leading stars. Just fractions of a second separated them throughout the event, and it went to highlight just how fierce the competition is this season and whoever claims the championship will thoroughly deserve it.

The only thing missing was a Briton at the very front of the field – but we will have one next season. The news that Northern Irishman Kris Meeke has been signed by Toyota is something which will not only rescue his career, but could give the WRC the shot in the arm it needs to regain some interest in the national press in this country. We can only hope. Matt James, Editor (Twitter: @Mattjmnews)
