After Wales Rally GB National Rally victory, Gallacher claims a circuit race win at Knockhill
Andrew Gallacher celebrated an unlikely double victory last weekend, winning the Wales Rally GB National Rally before adding a circuit racing success at Knockhill the next day.
The Ford Focus WRC driver and navigator Jane Nicol held off R5 competition in the form of John Wink’s Hyundai i20 to win the rally by over a minute.
By returning to a Friday and Saturday schedule, it left Gallacher free to enter the one day Scottish Motor Racing Club season finale meeting at Knockhill on the Sunday in a Mitsubishi Lancer E9.
“We’re back up the road because I’m racing at Knockhill in an Evo for the Scottish Saloon and Sports Car Championship,” he said after his rally triumph.
“We’re driving up, it’s only four and a half hours to Kilmarnock and then we’re across to the circuit.”
He might have swapped countries and disciplines, but the success carried over.
Gallacher qualified his Lancer in fourth, 0.6s off pole. He finished second in the first race, three seconds off Andy Forrest. But in race two Gallacher was 20s clear in front.
