Water­gate Bay hill­climb to be­come an an­nual event as 2019 date is re­vealed

Or­gan­is­ers of the closed-road Water­gate Bay Speed Hill­climb in Corn­wall have con­firmed that it will be­come an an­nual fix­ture and take place for a sec­ond time in 2019.

Af­ter a suc­cess­ful first event in Septem­ber this year, pro­mot­ers Truro and District Mo­tor Club, Newquay Auto Club and Ply­mouth Mo­tor Club are also look­ing at mak­ing changes to the hill to of­fer a greater chal­lenge for com­peti­tors and bet­ter view­ing for fans through­out the course. Next year’s con­test is sched­uled to take place on Septem­ber 14/15.

The in­au­gu­ral event fea­tured 90 driv­ers each day com­pet­ing on the 720-me­tre course which uses the B3276 coast road between Pad­stow and Newquay.

Truro and District MC com­pe­ti­tion sec­re­tary Dave Bren­ton, said: “It’s very ex­cit­ing to be able to for­mally an­nounce a date for 2019 and the re­turn of the Water­gate Bay Speed Hill­climb.

“The en­tire com­mit­tee worked tire­lessly to en­sure the de­but event was a suc­cess and I was so very proud that we man­aged to do that con­sid­er­ing it was the first event of its kind in the coun­try. We learned very fast and that means we can now take our ex­pe­ri­ences into next year and make it big­ger and bet­ter than be­fore.”
