Le Coadou debuts ex-sordo and Paddon Hyundai
Asphalt rally regular Gary Le Coadou debuted an ex-works Hyundai i20 WRC at the Challenger Stages at Bovington Camp two weeks ago, and plans to rally the ex-dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon car in the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship next year.
Le Coadou steered the car through six stages of the Bovington event before a suspension issue halted progress. He had bedded the car in at Llandow earlier in the month.
The Somerset driver sold his usual Toyota Corolla WRC earlier this year and bought the i20 which was used in rounds of the 2014 World Rally Championship by both Sordo and Paddon.
The deal was brokered between Le Coadou and Gerard Zyzik, who heads Hyundai WRT’S test team.
“I’ve known Gerard for several years; he worked for Toyota Team Europe and looked after the Corolla for me,” added Le Coadou. “It [the Hyundai] looks a very good buy.”
In 2019 Le Coadou intends to use the machine to contest selected rounds of the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship. “We are looking at several ‘away’ rallies including the Manx National Rally, Ireland and Rally van Wervik in Belgium, as they all have a terrific atmosphere,” he said.
