One-make series for classic Alfa Romeos
On the back of the success of a pilot race at Donington Park in October, the Historic Racing Drivers’ Club will expand its Classic Alfa Challenge in 2019.
An entry of 33 classic and historic Alfas for the Donington race proved HRDC founder Julius Thurgood has identified a demand for the series and a three-round schedule has been planned for 2019, starting at Silverstone on April 14.
“I’m convinced there is an appetite for a gentleman racer series for classic and historic Alfa Romeos,” said Thurgood, who is looking to add dates at Thruxton and Castle Combe.
While many cars in the pilot race were from the 1960s, the posthistoric class allowed cars from the 1980s to join the grid. Chris Snowdon won the Donington race in his 1975 GTV 2000.
