What is Gymkhana Grid? Drivers put themselves to the test
Now in its seventh year, the Gymkhana Grid event is the brainchild of American rally and internet sensation Ken Block.
Competitors in two classes (four-wheel drive and rearwheel drive) tackle what is essentially a glorified autotest side-by-side, but they also compete against the clock.
A course is set out with a variety of obstacles to drift and donut around. Johan Kristoffersson won last year’s event outright, defeating the Gymkhana master himself Block. Kristoffersson has remained in South Africa following victory in the final World RX round of the season in Cape Town last weekend and will compete against the Solbergs and Block in Carnival City, Johannesburg on Saturday.
