Zeus Formula Ford returns to track action

-

After an absence of three decades, a rare Zeus Formula Ford 1600 returned to racing during the recent Walter Hayes Trophy.

The Zeus design was the work of race engineer Peter Sneller and he was there to oversee the run for the car now used in sprints and hillclimbs by Russell Haynes.

Formula Junior racer Mark Haynes, father of Russell, owns three examples of the Zeus design from the early 1980s. Haynes senior rebuilt the car with support from Sneller and it was entrusted to Classic F3 racer Gaius Ghinn for its racing return as Sneller also prepares Ghinn’s titlewinning Ralt RT3.

Ghinn took the distinctive square-bodied machine to fourth place in the Pre ’82 final at Silverstone.
