NATIONAL DRIVER OF THE YEAR
European F3 Championship runner-up Dan Ticktum scooped the National Racing Driver of the Year trophy in recognition of his stunning single-seater season, during which he finished second in the F3 series and clinched a second Macau Grand Prix in a row.
The Red Bull junior driver also raced in the final F2 round of the season in Abu Dhabi and also took part in two Super Formula races in Japan, which is where he is expected to race next term. He was unable to attend the award as he was flying to the Far East, and the trophy was collected by former F1 driver Derek Warwick instead.
“He deserves to be in F1,” said former BRDC president Warwick. “He says what he thinks, before he thinks, but I think that’s good in F1. There are too many vanilla drivers so it is nice to see someone a bit controversial.”
