Motorsport UK’S Young Driver of the Year award goes to Turney

Multiple karting champion Joe Turney has been chosen as the winner of the Motorsport UK Young Driver of the Year award.

Turney claimed British and World Senior X30 crowns this year, the BNL Senior title and took the Senior Rotax honours at the Kartmaster­s British Grand Prix.

The 17-year-old impressed in a range of assessment­s at the izone facility at Silverston­e including simulator evaluation­s and physical tests.

The award first started in 2010 and is handed to a driver who is part of the AASE programme, a Motorsport UK Academy course delivered in conjunctio­n with Loughborou­gh College.

Turney beat competitio­n from Blancpain GT Series driver Sandy Mitchell, Formula Ford 1600 racer James Clarke and Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge rally driver Johnnie Mackay to win driver developmen­t training at izone.
