PAUL LAWRENCE

HISTORICS EDITOR

-

We get precious few chances to witness gravel rallying in the dark these days. Aside from the biennial Roger Albert Clark Rally, the stand-out is the Trackrod Historic Cup and this year’s event was glorious.

On the Friday evening the historics are let loose in Dalby forest, which offers some of the highest speeds of the historic season and it all happens under the cover of darkness.

The 2018 edition was truly epic, as the moon rose over the Yorkshire forests and the stars came out on a balmy late summer evening. As well as those populating the Milky Way, the stars came out in the historic entry.

When Matthew Robinson dropped his Ford Escort’s clutch at the thick end of nine grand, it was game on and the noise of a posse of BDGS, and the Brm-avenger of Ieuan Rowlands, working up and down the long, flowing riggs was unforgettable.
