WEST TAKES MN CIRCUIT CHAMPIONSHIP
WHERE: ANGLESEY WHEN: MARCH 18 There’s no doubt that the Ford Escort Mk2 has a rightful place in rally history, and it continues to write concurrent chapters in both modern and historic rallying in its varying specs, especially in the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship where the model has won the last two titles.
But sometimes it’s nice to see some variation, and a different car taking plaudits. Especially when it’s a Peugeot 306 Maxi.
The ex-francois Delecour and Gilles Panizzi test car was driven brilliantly by the talented Chris West and co-driver Keith Hounslow and, although it is more advanced than the original F2-spec car, it’s still fundamentally heavier than a Mk2 and front-wheel drive.
West wrapped up the title a round early at Anglesey after three maximum scores out of eight, and has returned just as strong in the 2018/19 season taking two maximum points scores on the first three rounds already.
