THRUXTON’S 50TH BIRTHDAY MEETING
WHERE: THRUXTON WHEN: JUNE 3 Just to hear the sound of a wailing DFV around the sweeps of Thruxton was special. The Williams FW08C that Karun Chandhok hustled around the 2.356-mile track was a joy, but it was only the icing on the cake of a wonderful weekend marking five decades of the Hampshire venue.
The superb race line up including many historic categories recalling machines from the track’s past, and there was a mouth-watering display of iconic motorsport winners in the paddock.
The weekend also marked a significant development in terms of the facilities at the circuit, with the opening of the new Thruxton Centre on the inside of Allard corner.
It is a state-of-the-art building which offers facilities for fans on race weekends and corporate hospitality, but will also allow the venue to maximise its revenue through the week with manufacturer launches and conferences. The future seems set for many years to come.
