The bare statistics of 2018 show that Lewis Hamilton was once again the behemoth of F1. A fifth world title was snared with 11 victories, and his dominance was such that he was able to lift the crown with two rounds to spare, his second title in a row which has now brought him level with Juan Manuel Fangio in the all-time list.

He was almost 100 points ahead of any other driver, and the seemingly unbreakabl­e benchmark of Michael Schumacher’s seven world titles and 91 race wins is being brought into sharp focus. Who knows where the bandwagon will roll?

A strong start from Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel, in particular, went on the wane in the second half of the year, while Red Bull was only able to challenge on occasion.

Despite that, there were some good races with plenty of action, and that seems set to continue through to 2019. Here, we answer the bigquestio­ns of the season gone by.
