VETTEL WINS BRITISH GRAND PRIX

-

WHERE: WHEN: “Deliberate JULY SILVERSTONE or incompetence” 8 that was Mercedes technical director James Allison’s controversial opinion after Kimi Raikkonen clattered into polesitter Lewis Hamilton at the start of the British Grand Prix.

A spun Hamilton was unhappy too but later retracted his comments about questionable Ferrari tactics.

What we do know is the incident denied Hamilton a chance of an unprecedented sixth win on home soil – but only just.

Despite dropping to the very tail of the field, the Mercedes driver stormed up the order and finished just 2.2 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel in the runner-up spot (admittedly aided by two safety car periods).

It had been an eventful race with multiple incidents and talking points but the result reflected Ferrari’s strong position at the time. Vettel left Silverstone with a 17-point advantage over Hamilton, only for him to throw it all away, starting with that clumsy spin at Hockenheim two weeks later.
