ALONSO WINNING THE INDY 500

-

There is only one thing left on Fernando Alonso’s tick list. The twotime F1 champion has conquered Le Mans, tasted the champagne at the Monaco Grand Prix and now there is just the Brickyard to vanquish.

He came agonisingly close on his first attempt in 2017 with the Andretti Autosport-run, Mclarenentered machine. He led for 27 laps, and was in the leading pack with 21 laps to run when the Honda engine went pop.

This year he will be back for another shot. It will be a big ask because the Indycar he will drive will be a different beast from the previous car he has handled. Less aero means the cars are more tricky to contend with and even some of the experienced US racers were caught out in 2018.

If the Spaniard can conquer the Indy 500, he will cement his place among the motorsport legends that he so craves (and deserves).
