Rook­ies pre­pare for post-mar­rakech FE test

Ex-wil­liams For­mula 1 driver Sergey Sirotkin leads the cast of driv­ers who will to take part in the ABB FIA For­mula E rookie test in Mar­rakech this month.

Sirotkin will drive for Mahin­dra Rac­ing in the test, which takes place this week­end af­ter the Mar­rakech E-prix, as he eyes up po­ten­tial op­tions hav­ing left F1.

“For­mula E is now one of the most rapidly de­vel­op­ing cham­pi­onships,” said the Rus­sian. “The com­pe­ti­tion here is at a very high level.

“More man­u­fac­tur­ers are en­ter­ing the se­ries as they are con­fi­dent that elec­tric cars have strong fu­ture po­ten­tial.

“More tech­ni­cal so­lu­tions ap­pear in these cars and they are pro­gress­ing rapidly.

“I drove a For­mula E car in 2016 but now the car gen­er­a­tion has changed it will be in­ter­est­ing to try the dif­fer­ence.” Arthur Le­clerc – younger brother of 2019 Fer­rari F1 racer Charles – will drive along­side Nor­man Nato for Ven­turi. Le­clerc is a mem­ber of Ven­turi’s ‘Next Gen’ de­vel­op­ment scheme and was the first driver to sam­ple its VFE-05 Gen2 car dur­ing the pri­vate man­u­fac­turer test­ing pe­riod in early 2018. DS Techee­tah will field Sauber F1 tester Ta­tiana Calderon and Su­per GT ace James Rossiter, while Jaguar will run Pi­etro Fit­ti­paldi and Harry Tinck­nell. Two-time DTM cham­pion Marco Wittmann will get his first run in a For­mula E car driv­ing for BMW, as will fel­low DTM driver Jamie Green with Audi.
