Revamped Avus to be turned into a ‘venue’

-

The grandstands at the famous Avus circuit in Berlin could now be rebuilt into a bar and event venue.

Avus was one of Germany’s leading race tracks of the 20th century and was in use from 1921 right through to 1998, more recently hosting F3, DTM and Group C cars.

The track ran along both sides of a dual carriageway, linked by hairpin bends, but racing reduced after the reunification of Germany.

The grandstands were left to decay for nearly two decades as traffic on the autobahn rushed past but the site was purchased by Hamid Djadda, who now has ambitious plans to preserve the buildings.

His plans centre on rebuilding the commentary box into a glass-walled event venue and bar overlooking the autobahn. Offices will be built underneath the 240m length and areas will be created to display vintage cars.
