-

British World champion Mike Hawthorn will be celebrated at Race Retro at the end of February with a display of cars and artefacts from his racing career.

Hawthorn’s career will be marked in the show’s Hall of Fame by the 1955 Le Manswinning Jaguar D-type, now owned by Nigel Webb, and a Lotus 11 along with a unique collection of personal racing memorabilia, including a selection of trophies and a steering wheel from one of his Formula 1 Ferraris.

After winning the 1958 World Championship, Hawthorn announced his retirement from racing but died in a road accident on January 22, 1959, when his Jaguar saloon crashed on the Hog’s Back near Guildford.
