Welcome...
I first came across Harry Hornby almost exactly three years ago. He emailed me out of the blue to thank MBY for the used boat report and video we’d recently published on the DALE 45 CLASSIC. It had inspired him to make the switch from sail to power by purchasing one of the actual boats featured. His only complaint was that if anything we’d underestimated the exceptional style, build quality and after-sales service of the team at Dale, as he and his wife Tricia had discovered on the cruise back from South Wales to Inverness.
“Our first trip from Milford Haven to Arklow across the Irish Sea in a Force 6-7 astonished us with the comfort and sea-kindliness at over 20 knots,” he wrote adding.“all being well we will cross the North Sea to Scandinavia in the spring for a month or two.”
In fact, two months turned into three seasons and having explored every nook and cranny of this fabulous cruising ground they are now sharing their experiences with us. You see, Harry isn’t just an enthusiastic boater, he’s also a very talented photographer. That’s why we’ve decided to present his SCANDINAVIAN CRUISE as a two-part photo diary rather than a conventional feature, starting on p67. I’d love to hear what you think of it. And for the record, don’t feel you have to wait three years if you’re planning a cruising adventure of your own – let us know now and get snapping!

Harry’s story is one of six articles that make up this month’s Adventure Issue. All three of our boat tests are cruising-oriented passage-makers, including the BENETEAU SWIFT TRAWLER 47, ABSOLUTE NAVETTA 48 and SIRENA 58, while Peter Cumberlidge has been sampling a CAMARGUE charter and Thomas Kittel has been exploring PORTUGAL’S Atlantic coast.
