OLAS Tags are an inexpensive way of raising the alarm should you lose a crew member (or pet) overboard. Each tag is a small waterproof disc that can be worn on a wristband like a watch or attached to clothing or a lifejacket. They link to an app on a smart phone or tablet, meaning you almost certainly already own part of the kit needed. This creates a virtual wireless tether which when broken by moving out of range or falling overboard triggers an audible alarm and light signal on the phone within 8 seconds.
It also records the time and GPS location and will guide the user back to that location using clear direction information (it doesn’t actually track the tag).
