This is the first new Bavaria motorboat for over a year so it’s good to see that it has used the time effectively. Although it shares its hull with the previous S40, everything from the deck up is brand new including the hard top, cockpit and interior layout. Italian designer Marco Casali has been shipped in to add some Latin flair and the result is a remarkably spacious 43ft sportscruiser with or without aft doors that features a number of clever new ideas but still manages to undercut most of the opposition.
Foremost among these new is an aft-facing dinette at the stern with a drop-down table that converts to a large sunpad, meaning you can enjoy a drink while looking out to sea or keeping an eye on kids in the water.
The main backrest also slides fore and aft so that it can be used as part of the main cockpit dining area.
A rather tall chaise longue opposite the helm is there to create headroom in the cabin beneath but it does have a useful if small section of forward-facing seating too.
The helm features a quirky looking pod for the Garmin touchscreen display rather than a full width angled dashboard but it seems to work and we love the huge fabric sunroof overhead that makes it feel like you’re driving an open boat. There’s a lot of exposed GRP on show up here not helped by rather plain upholstery but you can’t expect Sunseeker levels of detailing at Bavaria prices.
Rather than cram in three cabins Bavaria has opted for a really spacious two-cabin, twoheads layout. Headroom is exceptional while the darker woodwork and plush carpets definitely look and feel more expensive than on previous models. Most impressive of all is the pricing which starts at a whisker under €230,000 albeit with petrol engines ex VAT. Even once you’ve added diesel power, tax and delivery it still looks like a lot of boat for the money.
