roducing a model with an enclosed flybridge is a bold move by a European manufacturer, given the lukewarm reception they tend to get in this part of the world. In other territories, however, namely Asia, Australasia and North America, where the climate-controlled top deck is more attractive than an open flybridge, they are popular. And as enclosed flybridge designs go, this effort from Nuvolari Lenard – responsible for all the MCY range – does a good job of avoiding the floating tower block look others fall foul of.
On board there is a lot to like about the layout, too. With no need for a lower helm there is space on the main deck for a six-person dining table and a day heads, usefully located at the aft end of the saloon. An elegant glass and steel staircase leads directly from this deck to the sky lounge where there is relaxed seating, the helm station and sliding doors that lead out on to the open aft deck, which has space for a couple of sun loungers. A glass sunroof with built-in blinds brings in more light and offers some natural ventilation if you don’t want to rely on air-conditioning.
The boat shares its four-cabin lower deck, hull and drivetrain with the standard 70 and uses the same twin 1,300hp MAN V8 diesels, despite being five tonnes heavier. This extra heft is reflected in the top speed, which is down 2 knots on its sibling, though the cruising speed of 22 knots is the same.
