SURVEYOR’S REPORT

These Finnish designed but Polish built craft have already carved out a distinct niche in the market since their launch. Initially, their looks prompted questions as to their ability at sea, with their vertical bow and low freeboard. However, it only takes a run out in a seaway to polarise those emotions into one of respect.

The hull form on these craft is distinctive but the cut-off stem, with deep-vee form, twin-stepped sections and wide planing aft sections have proven to be a formidable combination. With twin 200hp 4-stroke outboards, it can provide up to 49 knots, and the air-step hull gives quick acceleration but also a flat running angle on the plane.

Safe walk-around decks with high gunwales and handholds are a hallmark of this boat, and provide a reassuring feel for all on board.

The quality of the original build is high. Vinylester resins used for the hull mouldings, fully lined cockpit locker lids and quality equipment and systems all should ensure longevity and high resale if well maintained.

Points to note when considering buying:

■ Cabin and superstructure sections incorporate a significant amount of glazing. Given the boat is likely to be driven hard, carefully check all radii for stress cracking around corners and edges.

■ Carefully inspect and hammer sound the high-stress

sections of the hull where she lands after take-off.

■ Check transom areas thoroughly for evidence of

crazing around outboard mounts and transom ends.

■ Check carefully for corrosion to fuel filters and the

often forgotten housings under the deck area aft.

■ Aft quarters on the swim platform could become

damaged over time due to impact from mooring.

■ Ensure outboards have been serviced. Pay particular attention to ensuring that engine anodes, when used in salt water, have been replaced scrupulously.

■ When testing, ensure that throttle and gear linkage cables, where fitted, are silky smooth in order to ensure easy manoeuvring.

■ It’s important to check out the engine dealers in your area, and make sure that their reputation for giving good, reliable service is suitably strong. Thankfully, there is no shortage of Mercury servicing agents around the UK and Europe to choose from.
