2 SWAN CHASER
Iconic Finnish sailing yacht builder Nautor’s Swan has announced its first-ever motorboat, the Swan Shadow. Originally intended as a runabout-cum-chase-boat for owners of large sailing Swans, this low-freeboard outboardpowered sportscruiser has since developed into something with much wider market appeal.
If you think it looks like a cross between a Wallytender and Axopar, you’re not far wrong. The man responsible for the sharp twin-stepped hull is none other than Jarkko Jämsén, the on-trend Finnish designer who helped fine tune the current crop of Axopars, as well as the recently launched Feadship superyacht MY Pi.
One of the 43ft Swan Shadow’s key features is a modular deck that lets owners customise the layout to suit their needs. Other than the helm console, the cockpit area is effectively a 35 square-metre blank canvas. Buyers can choose what combination of seats, tables, wetbars, sunpads, T-tops, and sportsfishing gear they want to fit. There’s even a limo-tender version.
There’s also a small usable cabin as standard, complete with a double bed and big day heads with shower compartment all fitted out to Swan’s usual high grade standard.
Power comes exclusively from triple 225350hp outboards giving a top speed of up to 55 knots. Unusually, the single-level deck runs right around the low-slung motors when they are in the down position thanks to a lifting aft section that doubles as both a passarelle and a bathing platform.
Swan Nautor’s owner Leonardo Ferragamo – head of the Ferragamo fashion house who bought the company more than 20 years ago – announced the model during an online press conference in mid-january. “We have thought about launching a motorboat many times over the years, but have always resisted the temptation,” he says. “But now we feel the time is right because we have something really special.”
