SURVEYOR’S REPORT
Sargo has been carving out an impressive reputation, with its no-nonsense range of heavily-built and very practical craft. I was able to survey a Sargo recently for a client, and it proved to be a total pleasure to dig deep into the build. The overall finish, even in areas you wouldn’t normally see, and the attention to detail was most impressive.
The sea trial was also an absolute joy, meaning this boat will be fun to helm whether pottering around or dashing across the Channel in a blow. The hull form is quite a deep vee, and the twin outdrives provide speed and agility for a true sports boat feeling. Safe walkaround decks with high gunwales and handholds are a major hallmark of this boat, and provide a reassuring feel for all on board: family, children and pets. The quality of the original build is exceptionally good, and as these craft are limited in number, prices will remain high.
Points to note when considering buying:
■ Check the Volvo servicing history prior to purchase, not forgetting heat exchanger cleaning, and crankcase breather filters. Again, a thorough sea trial will usually highlight potential issues here.
■ DP outdrives require strict maintenance routines, so check all service records and anode wastage rates.
■ Ensure all the opening door, window and hatch slides and seals are clean, watertight and well lubricated.
These are robust and powerful fast cruising boats. Provided you find a good example, and you are happy with an outdrive driven boat, you will be delighted with its feel on the water.
